About the wine
Tantalisingly lighter style Shiraz
- This is a lighter style Shiraz — not as big and blingy as its Barossa cousin — with softer fruit flavours. The quality is right up there with the best.
- Created from grapes from a single vineyard on the North Eastern Ridge of the Clare Valley. Glenn finds the wines from here show more perfume and freshness.
- A sip of this will reward you with intense purple fruit and raspberry characters and a hint of cinnamon and pepper. You should be able to pick out a touch of bay leaf and classic Shiraz peppercorns and the little pucker of fine tannins.
Best before
The wine is made to be enjoyed now but has enough pedigree to develop further over the next 5-7 years (if you have a cool place to store it and can keep your hands off it!)
Serving advice
A splash in a decanter is never a bad thing - it's a quick way to open up the wine and enjoy it immediately. Or just open the bottle and let it slowly breath to appreciate the evolution of the wine from one glass to the next.
Food match
I love a good cassoulet with this wine! It has enough perfume and fruit intensity to stand up to the strong flavours and cut through the delicious textures of confit duck leg and cannellini beans. Enjoy a glass while it's cooking and another while eating!!
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Glenn Barry
- Glenn Barry is a South Australian wine wizard, an ex-chief winemaker for Knappstein and a highly respected wine show judge. His philosophy of ‘no boring wines’ ensures a fantastically flavoured flourish in every bottle.
He’s had a stellar career working vintages in big wineries in Italy, the US and Canada, as well as here in Australia. When he tired of years sleeping on other folks' couches, he settled down in South Australia and worked his way up the ranks to Chief Winemaker.
With a ton of medals under his belt and all the right connections, he’s struck out on his own. Now he makes his own wines for us that are fun and interesting to drink. And you can be the judge of that!
