Glenn Barry Wine Boroughs Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2020
About the wine
Refreshing, bright Chardonnay - grown & pressed in VIC, fermented in SA!
- When Glenn lost his usual SA grape supply to fire in 2020, he jumped across the border to Victoria for the solution! The Yarra Valley is one of Australia's pre-eminent Chardonnay regions and the tiny crop that year meant wonderful flavours in the grapes.
- Crack open a bottle to be greeted with bright citrus, green apple, stone fruit, a slight nuttiness and faint honeyed toast. This is a really flavoursome wine with quite low alcohol.
- Not only is Glenn a talented winemaker, he’s also a highly-regarded wine show judge - and he’s making this wine exclusively for you. Now that deserves a medal!
Best before
The wine will evolve in bottle over the next 12 - 18 months and unfurl more layers of texture and flavour and reach a more harmonious point but the friskiness and deliciousness available right now makes it hard not to crack a bottle while the weather is still warm.
Serving advice
Don't serve it too cold, take it out of the fridge 30-45 mins before drinking so that the flavours unfurl as the wine warms slightly. When its young it could also benefit from a splash in the decanter, this will again help to open the wine up slightly so you can enjoy all facets of it's flavour and texture.
Food match
It's hard to go past the classic pairing of Roast Chook and Chardonnay but try jazzing it up by adding some Asian flavours. I love a ginger and shallot oil to help bring out the lovely touches of lemongrass and citrus flavours imbedded deep in the wine
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Glenn Barry
- Glenn Barry is a South Australian wine wizard, an ex-chief winemaker for Knappstein and a highly respected wine show judge. His philosophy of ‘no boring wines’ ensures a fantastically flavoured flourish in every bottle.
He’s had a stellar career working vintages in big wineries in Italy, the US and Canada, as well as here in Australia. When he tired of years sleeping on other folks' couches, he settled down in South Australia and worked his way up the ranks to Chief Winemaker.
With a ton of medals under his belt and all the right connections, he’s struck out on his own. Now he makes his own wines for us that are fun and interesting to drink. And you can be the judge of that!
