About the wine
A Tasmanian wonder of the Naked world!
- Looking for something a little different in your Pinot? You've found it! The fruit used to create this wine comes from sites that are sloped to the river and ripen earlier than many other vineyards in the Tamar Valley. The climate conditions produced grapes with the perfect balance of acid, tannin and ripeness.
- All grapes were hand picked, and fermented naturally in open fermenters with no additions. The fruit was packed with variety of bunch size, flavour concentration and time of ripening. When it came to blending, Cynthea and David had a huge range of options. This is where their talent shines!
- A deep scarlet colour will fill your glass, with perfumed aromas of violets and cherries leaping out. The first sip is like devouring a cup of summer berries! Fresh, red, juicy and delicious. The palate opens up, with savoury and spicy notes and plush sweet fruit. It's medium bodied and beautiful from bottle to the bottom of your glass; certainly the kind of wine you want to have for a special occasion with great food and with great company. Get in quick to secure some of this small batch wonder for yourself!
Best before
We know that its hard to store and age wines in smaller spaces, so we are making our Gypsy Caravan Pinot Noir ready to drink for those who like younger Pinot Noirs, however it will still age gracefully and offer aromatics and flavours of charcuterie and earth as it gets older.
This wine is one of our biggest pinots ever so it will probably age for a little longer too and will definitely benefit from decanting in the first year to allow it to open up even more.
Serving advice
Always a great experiment is to open your wine and serve it at the right temperature, for a Pinot Noir that is 16-18"C, so depending on when you are drinking it you may have to put it in a cooler or warm it up..... the flavours are at their peak at the right temperatures. We also recommend opening a young wine and during a glass then decanting the remainder of the bottle. This experiment allows you to see what the control wine is (the one with no air) and the wine with some air into it (the decanted portion).
Food match
Pinot Noir has been the best with some of our local cheese this year especially soft cheese such as camembert and brie. We also serve it with a local quince jam and some local prosciutto or charcuterie from wallaby or venison to add to the gamey-ness of the wine. while very simple its also the perfect umami pairing of sweet, salty, creamy savoury and gamey which is pure bliss when in your mouth. Its easy too which means more time to enjoy relaxing with your family and friends.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Cynthea & David Feldheim
This canny couple from the Tamar Valley has captivated Angels with their Gypsy Caravan offerings of tiny volume, hand-made deliciousness. The name reflects freedom, the ‘wild’ way the wines are made and the close relationship they have with this pristine place.
Cynthea has been making wine magic for 23 years. Bitten by the wine bug when her parents moved from San Francisco to Tassie and planted their own vineyard, she ended up studying winemaking and wine marketing. Then the world became her vinous oyster!
It’s hard to find great Tasmanian wines by little family winemakers like these outside of cellar doors and fancy restaurants. The Feldheim's exclusive access to parcels of lovingly tended fruit from mature vines means their Tamar Valley tipples are the next level in quality and value. Angel support has been so powerful, they’ve been able to take over the family vineyard - the first Tasmanian cellar door - and return it to its former glory.
