About the wine
The Arneis is back by popular demand!
- Arneis is the new ‘it’ wine - cool and oh-so-delicious! Lifted tropical hints of gooseberry and passionfruit jump from the glass. Crisp apple, pear and lemon myrtle glide along a fresh mineral palate that prickles with intensity and texture. Such a long finish. Yummm!
- This Arneis is back for 2020 (2019 vintage had a 93% buy it again rating so we couldn't not bring it back!). It is a $50 bottle of wine any day of the week - but Angel funding has made it possible to over-deliver on winemaking tools, wine quality and price.
- Partially fermented in two handcrafted Tuscan-clay, 500 litre Amphorae. Wow! These big pots are integral to the Nodus Tollens style and are testament to centuries old, traditional methods of winemaking.
Best before
Is drinking well now but can be cellared for 3-5 years.
Serving advice
Due to it's skin contact time there are some slight flinty notes to this wine and a decant can reduce this if preferred. Otherwise there is much to this wine so just watch it evolve in your glass.
Food match
Fresh anchovies with pickled beetroot followed by a de-boned rabbit rolled and wrapped with prosciutto (or something similar in case you don't have this handy in the cupboard!)
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Paul Nelson
Growing up on a vineyard, Paul thought was destined to be a grower, but a study trip to France changed all that. The history, passion and romance of winemaking lit a fire in his belly and he changed course. A winemaking degree and vintages around the world followed, as he honed his delicious craft.
In 2009, he took the leap out on his own, and within 4 years had bought the oldest winery in Denmark, WA. His sublime wines raised eyebrows in esteemed wine circles and earned him a Top 10 Best New Wineries listing. But his volumes were small - he needed more grapes and a bigger audience. In short, he needed Naked Wines.
And so in 2015, Paul came on board and went from producing just 40 cases of sensational handmade wine to thousands as Angels clamoured for more. He’s now grown big enough to add one of the oldest vineyards in Mt Barker to his fold (signalling more Nelson goodies to come!).
