About the wine
Beautifully balanced to perfection!
-
Sam’s super single-vineyard Shiraz comes from the Gentle Annie vineyard near Dookie in Central Victoria. This relatively dry site produces a low yielding crop of very small berries, giving a deeply coloured wine with extraordinary concentration of flavour.
-
The fruit was harvested over the first three weeks in March which produced a range of flavours from the early pick being more peppery through to the more richer jammy later parcels.
-
This superb shiraz has an incredibly deep red colour showing a youthful vibrant magenta at the edges. It has great intensity of flavour with blueberry fruits, along with a sweet spice and almost a chocolatey note. This is a beautifully balanced wine with great intensity of flavour finishing with silky fine grained tannins.
Best before
The pretty aromatics make this an enjoyable drink now, but for people who like to age wine, I think it will evolve and improve over the next 5-7 years and perhaps considerably longer.
Serving advice
I think serve the Shiraz at 16-18C. It's okay to drink straight away, but it will opens and be even more expressive if you have the time and patience to let it breath for an hour or two.
Food match
This is a versatile wine and a good match for pretty much any red meat dish including a favourite of mine - roast leg of lamb, perhaps with a herb crust to match that rosemary and pepper note in the Shiraz
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Winemaking legend Sam sources grapes from the family vineyard in the Strathbogie ranges of Central Victoria. Winemakers don't come much more in love with their job than him - he'd "happily spend everyday around tanks, barrels, stainless steel toys and wine".
He’s had a meteoric rise from self-taught winemaker to a multi award-winner and even has his own cellar door now! His winery was recently recognised as one of the Top 10 Dark Horse wineries in James Halliday's 2021 Awards.
The backing of thousands of Naked Angels has helped pave the way for Sam to continue making the great wine he loves, exclusively for you!
