About the wine
A rich and full-bodied delight
- The fruit for this wine comes mainly from two vineyards - the River Gum vineyard near Murchison and the Gentle Annie Vineyard at Dookie in Central Victoria. Each brings its own delicious characters to the finished wine.
- Fermented in a range of different vessels to add more complexity, this is a rich and full-bodied delight. Warming dark fruit and bramble flavours mingle with spice and chocolate notes from its time on oak, and finish with just enough of that classic Cabernet tannin grip.
- An impressive well-balanced red, you'll have envious friends wanting to try a glass (or two). Try one now and pop one away for a year or two to discover what magic happens!
Best before
I like the aromatics and primary fruit flavours of this Cabernet, and I will enjoy drinking it as a youngster. But it has the structure (tannin and acid) to develop in a good way (getting softer and more complex) over the next 5-7 years. So if you like young fruit forward wines get into it now, and if you like more savoury reds this is absolutely one you can put away for a few years.
Serving advice
Serve at a coolish room temperature say 16-18C
Food match
A versatile full bodied red which will go well with all kinds of meat based dishes. For me, delicious with char grilled steak!
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Winemaking legend Sam sources grapes from the family vineyard in the Strathbogie ranges of Central Victoria. Winemakers don't come much more in love with their job than him - he'd "happily spend everyday around tanks, barrels, stainless steel toys and wine".
He’s had a meteoric rise from self-taught winemaker to a multi award-winner and even has his own cellar door now! His winery was recently recognised as one of the Top 10 Dark Horse wineries in James Halliday's 2021 Awards.
The backing of thousands of Naked Angels has helped pave the way for Sam to continue making the great wine he loves, exclusively for you!
