Ben Gould's Story
Meet Ben Gould
Ben is a qualified winemaker of over 20 vintages, who started out picking grapes and has done every level of job there is in the industry.
It all began when Ben received a call from his dad who had bought a vineyard and needed a hand. From there they built a full winery and hired winemakers who mentored Ben and his interest in the craft. With his palate whetted, Ben signed up to uni to learn more and get some bits of paper that certify him as a professional grapegrower and winemaker (Bachelor of Applied Wine Science). He later took a 2-year wine tasting/surfing trip with his wife Naomi to Europe and fell in love with natural winemaking techniques.
Ben and Naomi’s two home vineyards are now certified organic and biodynamic with their wines made using minimal additives. This philosophy spills over into the decision-making on what grapes they buy in from other conventional vineyards in the area for their Greener Pastures label. It’s all about making wines as honestly as possible, true to the place they came from.
Naked Wines helps Ben and his family continue to grow their operation. A steady flow of orders and Angel assistance means that costs like barrels, tanks, bottling lines, and a mini-skate ramp onsite for his kids can all be kept in working (and rolling) order.
"We can deliver amazing value and delicious wines because we have the backing to do it and the customer base to enjoy it," says Ben.
