Hearts & Bones Margaret River Touriga 2018
About the wine
A rich, bold red with Portuguese heritage!
This Touriga wine from the Margaret River is a rare and beautiful thing. Tiny grapes from 40-year-old vines have been carefully hand-picked and crushed to two open fermenters for the action to start!
Fermented and aged in two separate batches, the wine-in-waiting is plunged by hand three times a day and given extra time on skins for texture and suppleness. After a lengthy 24 months on French oak, winemaker Stuart brings the two together to create the perfect drop.
Discover lovely dark berry flavours, spicy notes and a beautiful plum pudding richness in this exceptional wine. The palate is full of flavour and texture, with plenty of tannins but a soft finish - a beautifully engaging drink.
Best before
The volume of flavour this wine has makes it a lovely drink right now, but it will also age superbly. I would recommend buying 6 bottles, try one straight away, and then put the rest in the cellar, and try one every few years. This will required willpower...
Serving advice
Once opened, a quick decant will help the palate to open up, and the aromas to lift.
Food match
Pulled Pork on brioche buns, with a purple cabbage salad and season greens, and dressing....superb!
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Stuart Pym
Stuart’s winemaking career is the stuff of legend. First bitten by the bug at his parents' little winery in Margaret River, he went on to make wines in the Yarra Valley, Geelong and Bordeaux, and study in Tuscany, Piedmonte, Burgundy, the Loire, Rioja and Priorat. So you could say he has a fair bit of experience!
He's been crafting wine in Margaret River for over 30 years now and helped put iconic wineries like Voyager Estate, Devils Lair, Stella Bella and Flowstone firmly on the map. There's nothing he loves more than growing grapes and making wine. And he's very good at it.
With the support of Naked Angels, Stuart has rediscovered his passion for hands-on production. His label, 'Hearts and Bones' tells a story of Margaret River and celebrates the Naked Angels that paved the way for him to make wine just the way he likes it.
