Jen Pfeiffer Dream Reality Vermentino 2016
About the wine
A delicious drop that will help break the youth homelessness cycle
- This is a wine for those who want to give back to their community and also dare to drink a little differently! While Vermentino can appear light-bodied and fresh, Jen's blend is brings you more complex layers - a must for both Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay drinkers alike. It's lovely, lifted aromatic nose while treat you to white peach, wild herbs and citrus blossoms. Then the juicy palate will back up the flavour party, delivering zesty citrus and white stone fruits with a lovely creamy texture and a refreshing, long finish.
- Vermentino originates from the island of Sardinia, Italy, and is often made in one of two different styles - one fresh and zesty; the other fuller, richer and more textural. Jen's Dream Reality was made as two individual parcels of wine, picked from the same vineyard on the same day. The first parcel was crushed and pressed as soon as the fruit was received in the winery - aiming for an elegant and crisp style. The second parcel was left in contact with the skins for around 12 hours before crushing and pressing. Grape skins hold a lot of flavour, so giving the juice more skin contact time helps extract that flavour. Later this batch was transferred to 4 year old French oak barriques to finish off its ferment. The two parcels were blended just before bottling, and Jen was over the moon with the final blend...the sum really does equal more than the parts!
- Jen is donating the proceeds of her Dream Reality wine to STREAT, a social enterprise with the crucial goal of stopping the youth homelessness cycle through the services they provide, and also by training young people to work in their cafés around Melbourne. Jen's much loved collection of labels now has this unique new beauty! Dream Reality pays homage to David Bowie's Hunky Dory album and also reflects what STREAT are trying to achieve by giving youth pathways to fulfil their potential and realise their dreams.
Best before
Drinking beautifully now, or it will evolve into a fuller bodied wine over the next 2-3 years until 2020.
Serving advice
Best to enjoy this one chilled, around 8-10ºC.
Food match
Vermentino loves all seafood, fresh herbs and citrus flavours. This would be a great partner to a snapper fillet, served with an Asian inspired coleslaw salad. It would also be fantastic with home-made basil pesto on your favourite pasta. Yum!
