About the wine
Perfection in a glass
- Sourced from a single organically managed vineyard in the heart of the famed Gimblett Gravels of N.Z.’s Hawke's Bay. The intensely flavoured fruit beautifully reflects the site and the cracking vintage.
- Pungent red-fleshed plum fruits mingling with the trademark characters of black pepper and aniseed announces this wine assertively as a Hawke’s Bay Syrah! Gorgeous silky tannins, a medium palate weight and a driving core of red fruits wraps up with an incredibly long flavour-filled finish. Yummm.
- Hawke's Bay Syrah is highly sought after and the fruit from good sites is in short supply. Thanks to Naked Wine and the Angels, Rod has a great track record with the vineyard owners and they trust him and Naked to look after the growers interests. Only made in tiny amounts. Get it while you can!
Best before
This was bottled with fresh vibrancy in mind. And that is what offers immediately. However, this will age well for 5-7 years and you should see more spice emerge with time in bottle. The tannins don't really acquire attenuating with time in bottle - so all bottle age will do is slowly change the characters rather than soften the wine.
Serving advice
It is really ready to go with a twist of the screw-cap. I always suggest a large glass so that you can spend time with the wine as aerates in the glass. Then you can enjoy the changes as is unfolds.
Food match
Gamey meats are a great way to go with Syrah - like Venison, guinea fowl, pheasant etc. But in general any strong red meat goes really well.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Rod Easthope
Rod is one of the most respected winemakers in New Zealand. He left top NZ wine label Craggy Range to chart his own course and make wines just for us. And he's never looked back.
He loves the freedom to make wines directly for enthusiastic Angels and looks forward to their feedback on every wine. Their support has allowed him to buy his own vineyard and winery to give his wines a home and live more sustainably.
Rod’s aim is to give Angels a slice of his unique corner of NZ, in a glass. He knows all the best growers and where their grapes are hiding, so only the best make it into his wines!
