Try alternativeTop Australian winemaker producing serious reds from an iconic South Australian wine region
Caroline Dunn is winemaking royalty. Arguably the most awarded female winemaker in Australia, she was the first woman to win the Jimmy Watson Trophy (the most prestigious wine award in Australia) and counts a Best Shiraz in the World gong among her prizewinning stash!
Based in the heart of Australia's most famous wine region, the Barossa Valley, Caroline lives and breathes wine. She skillfully weaves new world winemaking techniques together with premium fruit to create her much-loved signature reds.
Caroline remains highly respected within the industry to this day, both for her technical knowledge and her commitment to modern Australian winemaking. Her 2020 Mataro won best Red Wine, Other Varieties trophy at the 2021 Barossa Wine Show amongst stiff competition. Whether you're a seasoned wine connoisseur or a casual drinker, a bottle of her wine is a true delight for the senses.
Caroline Dunn's Story
Caroline's interest in winemaking peaked while working in fine dining early on in her career. Deciding she preferred eating in restaurants to working in them, she changed tack and picked up a seasonal job in a famous winery in the Hunter Valley. It was life changing!
“Shovelling grape skins from red fermenters, picking grapes knee deep in mud, and tasting some of the best wines I’d had in my life, came together as the event that really sealed the deal.”
Well and truly bitten by the vinous bug, Caroline went on to study oenology at the University of Adelaide (winning all the top winemaking awards in her graduating class). She went on to forge a stellar career in top Aussie wine labels like Chapel Hill and Wolf Blass and become arguably the most awarded female winemaker in Australia. She was the first woman to win the Jimmy Watson Trophy (the most prestigious wine award in Australia) and counts a Best Shiraz in the World among her prizewinning stash of trophies and medals won nationally and internationally.
After years of making sensational wines for other labels, Caroline joined Naked wines in 2017 to do it for herself. Based in the heart of Australia's most famous wine region, the Barossa, she skillfully weaves new world winemaking techniques together with premium fruit to create her much-loved signature reds.
“Much of the intrigue and fascination for me is that no two wines are ever completely alike. Every seasonal variation, every sod of soil, every ray of sunshine, every drop of rain and every winemaking decision is etched into a wine’s inherent nature. As a result, every wine has its own story and is complex and unique. I love wine’s ability to tell this story, and in doing so, to make people happy.”
Caroline remains highly respected within the industry to this day, both for her technical knowledge and her commitment to modern Australian winemaking.
