Olivia Tate & Emiliano Secco's Story
Olivia’s grandfather, John Tate, co-founded Evans & Tate, and planted some of the earliest vineyards in Margaret River in 1974. One of the first wineries in this vine-friendly climate and its succulent soils, the family helped build the region into the powerhouse it is today. Evans & Tate has since changed hands but the family continue making awesome wine under their own brand.
Your support will help Olivia continue that wine tradition in her own way.
Born and raised on the vineyard and immersed in the nitty gritty of wine production and promotion for the last 6 years, she’s striking out on her own.
“I grew up in a household with great pride and passion for our wines. As soon as I could, I wanted to produce wines, meet people, and see what the diverse landscapes of each wine region could produce“ she explains.
Her first opportunity was across the seas — and right on her doorstep!
Emiliano Secco is a talented Italian winemaker who’s been creating the good stuff in Italy and Australia since 2007. Born in the vino-centric village of Barbaresco in Piedmont, he’s been an integral part of the success of the Tate’s wines for a few years now.
His love for his country and its historic wine culture harks back to his grandfather too.
“I have a memory of my Nonno pouring Barbera in a bowl then tossing in the first batch of his famous handmade ravioli,” he told us. “If I was well behaved, I was allowed to have some with him.” That simple Italian tradition ignited his love of wine and a career in winemaking.
As Olivia and Emiliano both shared a love of Italian wines, he jumped at the chance to pour some into Aussie glasses. Wines that smelled like home, made by people he knew.
It was the perfect opportunity for Olivia to get her wine dream underway!
“Nothing beats the fact Emiliano is from Italy and this is a full circle moment for him - from where he started to where he is now. And his connections have opened up the world of Italian wine to me,” Olivia told us.
The result is your chance to try something new while still supporting a fledgling independent Aussie wine business.
