About the wine
The essence of Frankland River
Frankland River, in WA's Great Southern region, has the reputation of consistently producing some of the best examples of Cool Climate Shiraz in Australia. So that’s exactly where Mike headed for it!
This dance of the two varietals epitomizes the essence of the region. Juicy blueberries and spicy dark plum is the first to the party with notes of chocolate and sweet coffee not far behind. All rounded off with a smooth tannin hug.
One sip and you’ll discover why many of WA's top producers are sourcing their super-premium fruit from this region. And Mike has nabbed it just for you.
Best before
The wine has considerable depth of flavour and structure, which should ensure that it will age gracefully over the next 10-15 years.
Serving advice
I would always recommend when opening young, Cool Climate Shiraz dominated wines that you think about decanting first to allow the full flavour to be enjoyed from the first glass.
Food match
This wine is crying out for rich, spicy dishes. I'd suggest something like Asian Spiced Osso Bucco with polenta.

Meet the winemaker - Mike & Callum Garland
Father, Mike (‘Babbo’), spent the last 14 vintages at Castelli Estate in Denmark, WA, creating wines like their ‘Il Liris’ Chardonnay that won Best White in the 2020 AND 2021 International Wine & Spirit Competition. He’s in demand with other leading WA wineries like Rockcliffe, Singlefile and Plantagenet too.
Mike’s son Callum (‘Mimmo’) is snapping eagerly at his heels - an up-and-coming winemaker in his own right. He’s already up to his ears in grape juice, learning the ropes from one of the real characters of the business in Geelong.
Now, thanks to the backing of thousands of appreciative Angels across Australia, they can come together to create outstanding cool climate wines from the juiciest vineyards in WA's Great Southern region, and Victoria. “That’s so precious and it wouldn’t have happened for many years without the Angels.” says Mike. That's why the wines are just for you.
