Byron & Harold The Companions Merlot 2020
About the wine
Classic Aussie Merlot by two great friends
- The fruit for this wine is a blend of the Geographe and Great Southern regions of South Australia. It shows lovely balance, with ripe fruit flavours, excellent varietal character, and elegant tannins.
- The wine was blended and bottled after 12 months maturing in oak barrels to soften and integrate the tannins. It smells of dark berries and savoury spice and tastes like plum and mint, with fine tannins and a soft finish.
- The Companions label reflects the companionship of Paul and Ralph, and the relationship between the winemakers and the growers. It speak to the friendship, support and wise counsel that goes into every bottle of their elegant wines.
Best before
This wine was made with youthful drinking in mind, however, it could easily be cellared for 4-6 years.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Ralph, Paul & Rory The Companions
- Halliday awarded duo Paul Byron & Ralph Dunning have persuaded Naked Winemaker Rory Clifton-Parks to join them in the sheds – and we’re so excited!
- Hailing from WA, Rory has been making wine for 15 years now, and has long been an Angel favourite, so the collaboration was a no-brainer for Paul & Ralph.
- Between them, these legends have 80 years’ experience, covering all aspects of the Aussie wine trade. With that kind of street cred, you can bet the wines won’t disappoint.
