Chicas Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2020
About the wine
The big Italian Red wine which really delivers
This wine delivers an amazing aroma and is packed with flavours of wild berries and dried herbs. It has silky tannins, and a gentle touch of oak. Italian Reds can be quite tannic and dry, but this is very approachable and lovely and juicy with a rich, deep colour.
Sourced from a number of regional vineyards in the Abruzzo region of Italy, the fruit was carefully selected to ensure ripeness and flavour was wonderfully reflected in the finished wine. There was a carefully limited level of grapes harvested, under the traditional Denominazione Di Origine Controllata regulations, ensuring optimal quality.
This is a great “food” wine, rustic, bold with some real oompf to it. (And at $18.99 a bottle, it’s a bold wine with a beautiful price.)

Serving advice
This wine will respond well to opening the bottle a little ahead on consumption and will open up further in the glass or even better decant it for a treat but make sure you leave some in the bottle so you can compare the two.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Sally Calneggia, Amy Vitale, Severine Logan (Chicas)
-
We could say the Chicas are full of energy, that their sense of joy is naturally infused into what they do. We could be flippant and use the line that “girls just want to have fun”, but that would take away from the huge list of awards and accomplishments these three women have on their resumes.
-
We could say they’re ambitious and determined – two traits they all openly admit to owning and applying in various degrees and different ways to their label.
-
But the Chicas women said it best themselves: “We are three strong and successful women in the wine industry bringing a taste of Europe to Australia.” Ready to let your tastebuds do some travelling and check them out for yourself?
