About the wine
Jen's incredible Winemaker of our Decade drop has arrived!
A wine like this comes about once in a decade… or maybe even longer! When Jen Pfeiffer was voted by Angels as the Winemaker of our Decade, she was given the opportunity to create a wine that celebrated the occasion. Ably assisted by Brisbane Angels Brian and Gab (who won a competition to be part of it), Jen has produced a wine worthy of the accolade… but that was never in doubt! “Angels, this wine is for you!” Jen shares. “To thank you for voting me your Winemaker of our Decade, for all of your support over all these years, for your contributions to what makes this community so special and for allowing me to fulfil my winemaking dreams. This wine really sums up the Naked spirit of togetherness and truly is a once in a decade blend.”
“I have put my heart and soul into this wine, from the vine to the bottle, with meticulous attention to detail shown at every drop,” Jen affirms. In a nod to her winemaking experiences across Europe, which shaped her skillset today, Jen selected grapes from some of her favourite varieties. It’s a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Sezao. “Each one of these grapes happens to originate from some of my favourite countries in Europe too,” she reveals. “Shiraz and Cabernet from France, Tempranillo from Spain and Sezao from my beloved Portugal.”
She carefully procured grapes from specific regions that showcases the best of these grapes - including Heathcote, Great Western, Rutherglen and Nagambie Lakes. Jen carefully tended to the wine while it was fermenting, before tucking each separate parcel away into a combination of new, one and three year old French oak barrels for no less than 15 months oak maturation. (So, that’s what’s been happening since Jen was given the top award!) Finally, it all came together in a perfectly balanced blend. In the glass, it’s a deep, brooding colour, and has complex and alluring aromas of spicy dark fruits, chased by hints of violets and mint. It tastes delectably rich and full bodied, with generous fruit flavours and long, welcome savoury tannins to finish. “I hope I have captured the sense of happiness, adventure and fun we all experience both on vacation and as part of this amazing Naked community!” Jen finishes. This is certainly one to have in your Naked collection… (especially with a cellaring potential until 2032).
