About the wine
A big old school Chardonnay
Coby Ladwig’s Lovers Grave Chardonnay 2018 embodies the pure natural surrounds of Pemberton in South West W.A. The best of both worlds - Old School in style and New School in vibrancy and intensity! If you like your chardonnays oaky and rich then this is for you.
Rich aromas of nectarines, cashew and a touch of spice leap out of the glass and the flavours are super long with stonefruits, a creamy nuttiness and a touch of the old school buttery richness to round things out.
It's a big rich Chardonnay but there’s a steely monster in the background that you never see but just seem to know it’s there… somewhere. Absolutely gorgeous!
Coby’s attention to detail is second to none.100% french oak, (40% new), wild ferment, yeast lees stirred for 5 months and 15% of select barrels going through malolactic fermentation for that delicious creamy luxe texture. At under $19 a bottle for Angels this is a steal!
Best before
Try not to open a bottle!
Will age nicely for 10 years as there is lots of fruit and acidity and you will see that rich buttery character become more evident in time.
Serving advice
Crack the bottle and dive straight in.
Food match
This is going to pair really well with roast chicken but if you have access to some fresh marron or blue manor crabs - great combo.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Coby Ladwig
Brought up in the southern wilds of Western Australia, Coby spent endless hours amongst the vineyards where his Mum worked. It was no surprise he was headed for the winemaking life! With a degree under his belt, he returned to his hometown “to seek out the very best, small sub-region sites to make exceptional single-vineyard wines that can compete with the best in the world.”
Over the next sixteen years, he used his silky winemaking skills to help the stunning West Cape Howe, Singlefile and Rockcliffe wineries earn 5-Star ratings from wine critics far and wide. And in 2017, he earned a Top 50 spot on the highly regarded Young Gun of Wine list.
- In 2018, thanks to the support of Angels, Coby became a liberated Naked winemaker with the freedom to handcraft small-volume boutique wines, just for you. And the same remains true today, “We always want to over deliver. It’s really exciting to be part of the Naked wines community,” he says with pride!
