Rod Easthope Level 185 Hawkes Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2021
About the wine
Small batch crisp and inviting NZ drop
- Fruit for this small batch Savvy Blanc was sourced from a single high altitude vineyard 185 metres above sea level. It's one of Hawke's Bay's most distinctive vineyards and makes for more aromatic fruit.
- Rod’s ‘light-touch’ winemaking techniques have conserved the unique fruit characters of this site - it's quite different from typical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. There are pronounced tropical fruit characters but with that limey chalky texture that only limestone provides. Think passionfruit and lemongrass. Slightly longer time on yeast lees have given it texture and depth as it balances fruit intensity and cooling acidity.
- Coming from a single site and created by the bloke who was once the head winemaker at Craggy Range, this crisp white is sure to be a big hit!
Best before
This wine is from a single site and therefore is limited in quantity. I am sure it will be a hit with Angels and hence will sell out. It is built for immediate enjoyment.
Serving advice
Twist off the top and let gravity do the rest! It doesn't need decanting or aeration to enjoy immediately.
Food match
WE make a white wine and onion broth/soup to go with Little Neck clams - just awesome with fine Sauvignon Blanc. All delicate shellfish, white fish will go well. But Sauvignon Blanc like this will cut through strong cheeses too.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Rod Easthope
Rod is one of the most respected winemakers in New Zealand. He left top NZ wine label Craggy Range to chart his own course and make wines just for us. And he's never looked back.
He loves the freedom to make wines directly for enthusiastic Angels and looks forward to their feedback on every wine. Their support has allowed him to buy his own vineyard and winery to give his wines a home and live more sustainably.
Rod’s aim is to give Angels a slice of his unique corner of NZ, in a glass. He knows all the best growers and where their grapes are hiding, so only the best make it into his wines!
