About the spirit
Bright, bold and crisp - a modern take on a classic
- Naked and La Petite Mort are proud to present our exclusive, small batch Bent Road Distillery New-School Gin #4. Based on a classic recipe from the 1920s by a man called Willkie, quintessentially the mad scientist of Gin!
- The passionate team at La Petite Mort have meticulously crafted his ingredients into this distinctly modern offering. Compared to the original recipe and more classic styles, New-School Gin #4 has a significant reduction of juniper and a good whack more lemon - as well as orris for flavour fixation. The extra lemon is backed up with the addition of native finger lime and given a spicy citrus lift by a hint of bergamot peel.
- Bright, bold and crisp, this is ideal for citrus-based cocktails and makes a very pleasing G&T (use light or citrus tonic and garnish with grapefruit, ideally). If you like your Martini with a twist, then this is for you! Its closest counterpart on the market would be Tanqueray #10.
Best before
Craft gin will change over time and batches subtly shift between one run and the next with seasonality and as the distiller hones his craft. So, while ageing isn't a significant factor, if you find a batch you particularly like, stock up on it!!
Serving advice
Almost ALL good mixed drinks start with a glass filled to the brim with ice! Lots of ice keeps your ingredients cold to reduce dilution and in a G&T it helps to get the ratio of spirit to mixer right.
Try 2 parts gin to 3 or 4 parts tonic (eg. 30ml gin and 45-60ml tonic).
Simple, uncomplicated tonics work best to allow the gin to shine.
If your tonic of choice is a bit too full on, try 50/50 tonic and soda for a lighter, more refreshing drink.
You don't have to garnish your gin - I worked hard to make sure there's plenty of flavour already in the bottle! But by all means, play around. Try to think of a garnish that will highlight something you like about the gin.
Try New-School with mandarin peel or pink grapefruit.
Please don't shake your Martini's... the famous reference is a joke - not to be taken literally!!
Food match
Gin is the ideal clean, fresh aperitif. Enjoy a tipple or two before dinner the cleanse the palate and whet the appetite!
Meanwhile, the bitter, digestive properties of a Negroni make for a great after-dinner drink to settle the stomach and to ease into your evening's activities!

Meet the spirit maker - Glen Robert & Andrew Scott
- Expected the unexpected from this creative Queensland pair! When Glen and Andrew stumbled upon Shiraz and Viognier vines in need of a little TLC in 2014, they knew they had found the perfect place to begin their La Petite Mort journey.
- Thanks to Angel support, Glen (former research scientist) and Andrew (hospitality guru) have been able to re-vitalise a historic, cool-climate vineyard in the Granite Belt, flexing their sustainable winemaking skills with slow-ripening, hand-picked fruit that packs a flavourful punch!
- From fermenting in terracotta amphora to partially drying grapes, the innovative techniques behind the hidden gems in the La Petite Mort range represent the idea of letting go of restraints and revelling in something new… like Glen and Andrew’s truly artisan wines!
