Chardonnay by Phillip Straight Up Yarra Chardonnay 2021
About the wine
Premium Yarra Valley Chardonnay from selectively hand-picked grapes.
- A premium Yarra Valley Chardonnay from selectively hand-picked grapes. While not short on quality, this Chardonnay is certainly short on quantity due to exceptionally low yields in 2020.
- Loaded with citrus, white stone fruit and cashew tones, this bright white still has richness and texture from its time in a combination of second use and freshly toasted new French oak. You can really taste the fruit and it lingers beautifully on your tongue!
- Good quality Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley like this usually sells for around $40. But not here! Thanks to the support of angels, we don’t need a distributor which would otherwise pump up the price. So we can offer good quality wine without the unnecessary markup.
Best before
Already approachable and enjoyable, the wine will develop secondary characters and reveal more in the 5 to 8 years window
Serving advice
Chill in fridge, but remove half an hour before drinking. Ideal temperature is around 8 to 10 oC whereas the refrigerator temperature will be below 4oC. Decanting young white wines can enhance the tasting experience.
Food match
Anti pasto platter. Prawn and avocado linguini. Smoked salmon nori rolls. Oven baked herb marinated chicken. Cheese platter (most people believe that a red is more suited to cheese, but I prefer whites, especially aged Chardonnay), especially when the wine gets some age.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Phillip Moraghan
Phillip left his corporate life to travel the world, working with world-class winemakers to learn how to make the best Pinot Noir he possibly could.
For 18 years, he lovingly tended his grapes, crafted stunning wines and built up a Halliday 5-star winery, making arguably one of the country's finest Pinot Noir wines.
When he found himself having to start from the ground up again, he sourced premium fruit from one of the best vineyards in the Yarra Valley, borrowed Sam Plunkett’s sheds, and is crafting his exquisite Pinot Noir once again. But only for us!
