About the wine
Unique Shiraz blend from the history books
- This Saperavi Shiraz is unlike anything you’ve tried before. It’s the inspiration of avant garde winemakers following their passion for creating, or recreating, unique wines.
- Inspired by ancient wines of long ago, Glen and Andrew have blended Georgian Saperavi grapes with high altitude Shiraz to create a truly ‘Naked’ wine - minimal intervention, unfined, unfiltered, unoaked and made in terracotta pots!
- The wine is bold and earthy, tasting like blackberry with a touch of dark chocolate and fruity spice, and a fair bit of zip on the tongue. Pour a glass to turn back the clock and experience what our ancestors were quaffing 8,000 years ago.
Best before
Because this wine has medium acidity and tannins, these characteristics contribute to its longevity. I would recommend this wine to age for about 7 years.
Serving advice
Because of its medium-bodied nature, this is an all-rounder, versatile wine. Equally enjoyed in winter or summer, I suggest one cools a bottle down, 20 minutes in a fridge before enjoying in the summertime with a meal.
Food match
Living on the vineyard, we have lots of game roaming the property, trying to eat our grapes! I like to eat Jamie Oliver's Spanish Rabbit Stew. The slightly gamey rabbit complements the subtle earthiness of the Saperavi whereas the sweetness of the braised onions & roasted capsicum complements the fruit generosity & spicy top notes.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Glen Robert & Andrew Scott
- Expected the unexpected from this creative Queensland pair! When Glen and Andrew stumbled upon Shiraz and Viognier vines in need of a little TLC in 2014, they knew they had found the perfect place to begin their La Petite Mort journey.
- Thanks to Angel support, Glen (former research scientist) and Andrew (hospitality guru) have been able to re-vitalise a historic, cool-climate vineyard in the Granite Belt, flexing their sustainable winemaking skills with slow-ripening, hand-picked fruit that packs a flavourful punch!
- From fermenting in terracotta amphora to partially drying grapes, the innovative techniques behind the hidden gems in the La Petite Mort range represent the idea of letting go of restraints and revelling in something new… like Glen and Andrew’s truly artisan wines!
