About the wine
Classic Aussie blend with wonderful intensity
- Winemaker Anna Hooper has spent 20 years exploring the Limestone Coast and has a great understanding of the different regions. She’s expertly selected Cabernet grapes from Wrattonbully, which are bursting with rich flavour, and paired them with Shiraz from Padthaway, a region she dubs “an unsung hero”. It’s her first time making this iconic blend for Angels and she’s looking forward to hearing what you think!
- This classic Australian blend allows the two vineyards to really shine. It’s a beautiful blend of the two grapes, with the tannins from the Cabernet nicely balanced and there’s a lovely light touch of spicy French Oak. It has a lovely medium/full mouthfeel which makes you simply want another sip.
- It really jumps out of the glass, with red berry fruit, dark chocolate and hints of oregano. It has superb, lingering berry flavours and is a pretty serious wine for its price – proving to be exceptional value. 2022 was a fantastic ripening vintage, allowing the wine to deliver on intensity from beginning to end.
Best before
I like reds to be fresh and fruit forward so I would be happy to drink this wine right away. For those who prefer more complexity, it can be cellared for at least 2-3 years and probably more. You could always buy a dozen and observe how the flavours subtly change over time!
Serving advice
As with all wines, once opened, they are best consumed within a couple of days. I don't bother with decanting unless the wine needs it and this one doesn't.
A hot tip from a fussy wine drinker - store red wines in the fridge overnight if you're not going to get through the whole bottle. Let them warm up again before consuming of course. They stay fresher for longer that way.

Meet the winemaker - Anna Hooper
Anna Hooper is back as a Naked Winemaker in her own right and it’s her love of the ocean, surfing and exploring that gives her Obelisk range an edge. She believes the Limestone Coast is a prime location for sourcing grapes.
She's not all talk. Anna is also highly accomplished, having been named Rural Woman of the Year, inducted into the Business Women's Hall of Fame, and named a Top 10 Young Gun of Wine.
Her daughter Grace will be joining Anna in this next chapter. After an end to the formal partnership with Derek, where she made wines under a large portfolio of brands, Obelisk is now her sole focus. With shared passions and a whole lot of knowledge, it’s a perfect pairing for success.
