Obelisk Wines Ded Reckoning Shiraz 2020
About the wine
The return of a Naked hero from the cool South Coast.
- Another cracking vintage has come and gone in the gorgeous coastal wine regions of South Australia, bringing on the premium fruit that has gone in to this wonderful red! Berries and subtle spice will dance around your tongue as the medium to full bodied mouth feel follows through. All this yum factor plus structure and tannin to finish, need we say more?
- This warming and moreish red exemplifies the Hoopers' dedication to minimal intervention winemaking and excellence in producing cool climate styles. If you're after an undeniably elegant Shiraz that will seduce you with hints of chocolate, then get this gem in your basket quick smart.
- The maritime influence of their location makes all the difference, keeping temperatures down so that fruit ripens slower, leading to extremely high concentration of flavours. All up, you'd be mad to miss trying this creature, especially at under $14 for Angels!
Best before
This wine is drinking well now (but do let it breathe) however over the next ten years it will become softer and more savoury if you prefer an aged style with more tertiary characteristics. Many Angels have been rewarded for their patience.
Serving advice
Let this breatheÂ…resist the temptation to pour yourself a glass for an hour. If you must pourÂ…decant and allow the layers to open up!
Get back to tradition, when you would open up the wine and place on the table when the guests arriveÂ…perfection has been reached by the time you sit down to sup!
Food match
We love our Shiraz with pasta! We love our Shiraz with a beef in red wine casserole! We love our Shiraz with a delicious creamy blue cheese! We love our Shiraz with a juicy steak or some smoked kangarooÂ…we just love our Shiraz!
BUTÂ….
Meat doesnÂ’t necessarily need to be the hero with this intense flavourful Shiraz. It loves the dense earthiness of mushrooms and the robustness of eggplant. Think wild mushroom tart with a simple spinach and shaved Parmesan salad or roast eggplant and lentil ragout. Or if you really must have meat try something a little different like roast duck with a sticky caramel glaze is sure to be a match!
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Derek Hooper
Hooper & Co’s wines echo the pristine land they come from, the local community and pushing wine boundaries (Derek’s speciality!)
Derek’s son, Harry, splits his time between winemaking and brewing. Daughter Grace is already elbow deep in grape juice, and Daisy is a marketing specialist in the industry.
From father Kym’s first vineyard back in 1992, through Derek, to his fresh-faced, eager charges, they are one of the new families of wine. And they’re out to stir up your palate with fantastic drops with sustainability at their core.
