About the wine
Rich, ripe 'n' juicy Shiraz
- Rating a stupendous 93% buy-again from thousands of Angels just last vintage, you can look forward to the same incredible quality of Geographe fruit that Ben secured for his 2012 and 2014 releases. Plus, a generous portion of Perth Hills fruit adds delicate spice and structure. Each sip delivers ripe, bouncy characteristics that will have you searching for another bottle in no time (to share around of course).
- The palate is balanced and approachable with a slightly spicy edge. It's the perfect dry Shiraz for those wanting something other than a big powerful red. Seductive hints of sweet oak elements ride alongside ripe plum, rounding out a voluptuous and generous mouthfeel. The wine is curvy and soft, yet has a definite structure with silky tannins. The fruit flavours come together like a song, in harmony with oak layers and an enduring finish.
- With 20 years of winemaking knowledge poured into every element of Ben's winemaking process, there is no doubt he has nailed this Shiraz once again. Layers have started to evolve and the hints of both French and American oak will be more prominent. Best to stock up with a few and compare this wine as it develops from year to year, right?
Best before
As with the other vintages of this wine, it certainly wont hurt from a year or two in the cellar. That being said, Ben's goal is to craft it for drinking as soon as it's released...yummo!
Serving advice
This wine will have no issues being opened for a few hours before drinking or even a quick decant if you can find the time.
Food match
Ben's tip? Nothing better than a quality steak.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Ben Rector
- Ben Rector is out to show the potential of the lesser known vineyards of WA. With more than 20 years experience across some of Australia's premier winemaking regions, he knows exactly what to look for in grape quality, no matter the climate. In 2019, he was awarded the Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot trophies at the regional wine show.
- The Pemberton and Geographe regions of South West WA are Ben's main focus. His aged release reds have all sold out in record time, and his flair for Chardonnay is undeniable.
- Ben takes great pride in his artistic licence, always ensuring that his wines go above and beyond. Angel feedback is gold dust, and the support he has received has allowed Ben to increase his output astronomically. All this in five short Naked years...what will he do next?!
