About the wine
Elegant single vineyard cool climate Pinot Noir
-
“The weather in the lead up to the 2023 vintage was cool and mild,” reveals NSW winemaker Rob Paulazzo. “That helped the grapes produce excellent flavour, while maintaining the region’s typically high natural acidity.” The region Rob’s referring to is NSW Alpine town Tumbarumba, nestled near the Snowy Mountains. Rob selected grapes from a single vineyard, which were hand-harvested at the optimal time, for perfect ripeness and tannin levels. “The quality of fruit was outstanding,” says Rob. Despite these excellent growing conditions, Pinot Noir is very fickle and won’t grow just anywhere. “It needs the right climate, soil and location to show its true potential,” explains Rob. “The Tumbarumba region is fantastic and ideally suited to Pinot Noir.” In fact, this is the only Tumbarumba Pinot Noir on our virtual shelves and is available in very limited quantities, so grab it before it is all snapped up!
-
The result of such superb fruit is evident in the end result. Vibrant aromas of pristine raspberry, cherry and plum waft out of the glass, combined with hints of cinnamon spice and delicate floral notes. This is a light-medium bodied drop, with elegance, intensity and length to it. There are subtle nudges of savoury spice and earthy forest floor, which give it a lovely, interesting complexity. “The finely structured palate shows a silky texture,” explains Rob. “Defined by dark cherry and framed with supple tannins.”
-
Rob’s winemaking technique was the epitome of 100% handcrafted, and at every step the grapes were given the deluxe treatment. “This is a wine I am super passionate about,” he shares. Rob perfected his Pinot Noir skills over four vintages in Burgundy, France. “If there was one single varietal I would make (and drink!) for the rest of my days it would be Pinot Noir,” he admits.
